The opportunity

Based in Singapore, you will be an integral part of the Private Capital team with a focus on direct investments across Australasia, Southeast Asia and South Asia. You will play a key role in evaluating potential investment opportunities, executing transactions and handling existing portfolio investments. The Principal will help execute the investment strategy and contribute to a diverse team culture where multiple investment groups collaborate to effectively cover the market.

Who you'll work with

In your new role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a team of professionals including other members in Singapore, Hong Kong, Toronto & London and outside professionals such as management teams of our assets, investment bankers, consultants, board directors and lawyers. It will also be encouraged that you build and manage relationships with fund partners.

What you'll do

Transaction Execution: When evaluating new investments, you work as a member of a small team determining whether the company represents an attractive investment opportunity. Among other things, the analysis of investments includes conducting industry and company research, handling third-party advisors, crafting sophisticated financial models, arranging debt financing, reviewing legal documents, reviewing and analyzing due diligence materials, and preparing internal support materials and written recommendations to Private Capital's Investment Committee.

Portfolio Management: Once a transaction has been completed, you will remain involved with the business, potentially attending board meetings as an observer, and will work with the management team and the board of directors to implement value-enhancing initiatives. You will work directly with management on various initiatives as required, including mergers and acquisitions, debt re-financings, budgeting and other strategic projects. Additionally, you will continue to monitor ongoing financial performance, review valuations and evaluate potential exit alternatives.

Investment Origination: You will also play an active role in assisting in and identifying target investment sectors, developing investment theses and generating proprietary deal flow in specific sectors across our core regions. Activities will include conducting desk research, working with bankers and consultants, and attending conferences.

As part of the Private Capital team in Singapore, you will play an integral role supporting the execution of the investment strategy. Private Capital has a broad geographic directive that includes both developed and developing private equity markets.

You will be an integral member of the Singapore team, helping to develop and support the growth of the office. In addition, you will have the opportunity to partner with the broader Equities' team on certain transactions and initiatives and support the continued growth of business in Asia on strategic projects and talent development.

What you'll need
  • Minimum a Bachelor's degree from a top tier university, a CFA designation is considered a plus
  • 5 to 6 years of relevant experience in private equity, investment banking, or consulting, with at least 2 years of private equity buyout experience at a leading firm
  • Strong accounting, valuation, research and financial modeling skills. Excellent analytical and quantitative skills as well as the ability to perform in-depth, innovative, critical analysis
  • Experience in leading areas of the investment process, including conducting due diligence, supporting deal sourcing activities, and working with company management on value creation initiatives. The experience with raising debt financing is a plus
  • A proven understanding of fundamental investment analysis
  • Able to develop a sound knowledge of the economic/characteristics, conditions and trends of a broad range of geographies, industries, and of their investment characteristics
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (both oral and written), with proven ability to articulate sophisticated ideas, issues and recommendations effectively
  • Strong team player and willingness to mentor junior colleagues. A high degree of maturity and initiative, with the ability to work effectively whilst balancing multiple priorities within a small entrepreneurial team
  • Possesses unquestioned personal and professional integrity
  • Native proficiency in English and one other Asian language skill is a plus
  • Ability and willingness to travel; desire to work across the Asia-Pacific region
