POSITION

Overview

We seek someone to lead our external sustainability efforts in APAC, representing all facets of the firm's sustainability efforts, across asset classes, to external stakeholders, including clients, prospects, consultants, and the broader APAC investment community (conferences, media etc.). In addition, this role will work with local investors to help incorporate ESG considerations into investment processes and how to leverage the existing sustainability resources for Asian based investment approaches. This role will be based in an APAC location (Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney or Tokyo with a preference for the locations of Singapore or Hong Kong).

The successful candidate will focus on providing holistic external representation in APAC for our firmwide sustainability efforts -ESG research, Climate research and representation of the Woodwell joint venture, integration into our investment platform, perspective on evolving regulatory requirements, as well as our sustainable investment platform. A key aspect of the role will be to work in partnership with our Director, Sustainable Investment, the SI Leadership Team, the IPFS-SIGN and the investment platform leaders to ensure two-way collaboration and a unified approach to messaging, content creation, and appropriate representation at each external engagement.

The work with the Asian based investment teams will include interpreting regulatory requirements and implications on investment processes, partnering with investors on company engagement on ESG issues and helping investors utilize data, analytics and tools to further evolve integration.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Client Group, SI Leadership Team and SIGN to create a strategy for engaging external stakeholders on all aspects of our firmwide sustainability initiative
  • Work with local based ESG analysts to understand regional nuances and implications to global and regional ESG frameworks.
  • Work with local based investors on incorporation of ESG considerations will include interpretation of local regulation, building ESG models, advice on engagement models and being a sounding board for investment related ESG issues.
  • Active contributor to SIGN to ensure close collaboration between IPFS internal and external efforts, including owning workstreams related to the mission
  • Credibly represent content on all aspects of our sustainability effort, including firmwide efforts, ESG integration, overall product platform, and introduce sustainability product platform/funds, across a wide range of outlets (clients, prospects, consultants, panels, media)
  • Collaborate and coordinate with leaders across the firm, including the Sustainable Investment platform leadership, on messaging, content, and external strategy
  • Potential work with local regulators and industry groups on the development of sustainability policy and how that will impact how clients portfolio as well as how we manage client mandates
  • Author original content on sustainability landscape and platform
  • Develop and encourage additional client platform members to also participate in external sustainability engagements (e.g. PAs, IDs, RM/BDs) to showcase the breadth of our commitment
Competencies - skills/knowledge/experience
  • Fiduciary mindset
  • Educated to degree level, financial qualification e.g. CFA, advantageous
  • Understanding of investments/ investment acumen - has credibility with investment professionals and external stakeholders on a broad range impact, sustainability, and ESG topics
  • Understanding of clients and commercial approach - externally aware
  • Capability and interest in learning impact products across asset classes
  • Advanced stakeholder engagement skills and collaborative approach
  • A proactive approach and ability to dig into regulatory issues impacting fund sponsors
  • Good enquiry & judgement skills together with a detail orientation
  • Global mindset & experience/willingness to engage in a collaborative, cross-functional organizational structure
  • Willing and able to work collaboratively to set a direction and execute on external strategy
