The Role: Associate Regional Pricing Director, Metals - Asia

The Team: The Asia Metals team is responsible for the generation of price assessments, analysis and market-related news relevant to metals markets in the Asia-Pacific region, publishing global benchmarks in a high growth environment.

The Impact:
The successful candidate will develop and deliver the vision for Platts Metals Asia, support the global head of metals pricing in developing global strategy and will work closely with relevant units across the organization such as news, analytics, product management, marketing, sales and conferences.
The associate pricing director will have:
  • The ability to defend and strengthen Commodity Insights' reputation in respect of existing benchmarks and to build a reputation and a name for Platts within new coverage areas and emerging metals markets
  • Excellent leadership skills and advanced experience of the commodity markets and of market reporting and publishing
  • Expertise in developing and applying methodologies, ability to serve externally as a subject matter expert

The associate pricing director is expected to work well in collaboration with senior leaders in the region and globally as well as showing strong individual leadership and assuming considerable responsibility for the delivery of essential market pricing and coverage.

Responsibilities:
The associate pricing director will help develop and drive coverage across our existing steel, raw materials and non-ferrous price assessments as well as oversee the introduction of new markets as we continue to expand our metals pricing offering into the energy transition space.

Based in Singapore, the associate pricing director position leads team coverage and day-to-day operations for Asia-Pacific and contributes to the global strategy of the metals group. S/he drives benchmark development and adoption; leads engagement with industry stakeholders; responds to changing market dynamics and drives opportunities for growth and operational effectiveness at the regional level.

The candidate will relish the challenge that building continued strength in this exciting business brings and will:
  • Act as a subject matter expert and thought leader both internally and externally
  • Oversee the development and evolution of pricing methodologies in the region
  • Defend and drive adoption of Commodity Insights benchmarks
  • Engage industry leaders to continuously understand market trends and identify emerging opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with other regional leads and functions
  • Contribute to group strategy, support execution of strategic initiatives
  • Direct market reporting activities, ensuring timely and adherence to deadlines and operational/regulatory requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes
  • Manage team performance, recruiting, training and developing talent
  • Delegate for the global head of metals pricing when necessary
What We're Looking For:
  • At least five years market reporting/writing/analytical or editorial management experience; relevant business development experience also considered
  • Previous management experience and strong leadership ability which utilizes influence and promotes team collaboration and development as well as personal accountability
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally
  • Strength in defining and executing strategy, proven track record of translating ideas into targets and clear action plans
  • Skilled at identifying improvements and efficiencies and implementing processes that continually promote productivity and quality improvements
  • Strong critical thinking skills and expert at problem/conflict resolution
  • Solid understanding of economics principles and of risk management principles
  • Deep knowledge of the global commodity markets - physical, exchange-traded and over-the-counter
  • Energy, tenacity and ambition to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong numeracy skills including ability to conceptualize proportional relationships and to understand the basic principles of algebra and statistics as well as an ability to apply basic math functions in Excel
  • Knowledge of metals markets preferred
  • Multi-lingual skills an advantage
