The Role Responsibilities
Standard Chartered (SC) Bank has a bold ambition to be the number one Learning function in financial services: "having world-class Learning that unlocks the unique potential of our people and helps them contribute their best to Standard Chartered and our clients, both today and as we transform into the future".
To achieve this ambition, the People Capability (PC) function has reinvented its organisation design to organise around tribes, disciplines and squads. In this model:
  • Multi-disciplinary "Squads'' deliver work to achieve the function's priorities
  • "Priorities" are the way in which work is organised and relate to unique areas of delivery. Squads delivering on different projects within the same strategic priority are grouped together and called "Hives".
  • All squad members are "Discipline'' practitioners and are dynamically allocated to squads through disciplines:
    • Disciplines are the 'homes' for practitioners to develop their professional excellence and to maintain a common approach to similar activities and tasks
    • They provide a stable community for practitioners to belong to (as people move across squads)
    • They enable multi-skilling and development of depth and breadth or "T-shaped" capabilities.
Strategic importance of role
The role serves to ensure that the CPBB Wealth Academy have the required level of focus from People Capability and equally our global learning agenda is translated into this Academy with consistency and standards. The role will belong to the Hive Tomorrow Discipline and the role holder will be a respected learning practitioner in their field.
The role will form part of the People Capability Management Team and the primary focus will be on the delivery of the Wealth Academy for CPBB Wealth Management and Affluent. The role will require the role-holder to manage complex stakeholder relationships, create and deliver a strategic focused workplan, be the central point on world class innovative design and lead the implementation of the Academy across multiple regions. The ultimate goal is to guide the Academy towards its robust business goals.
The role will require the role-holder to work with multi-disciplinary teams across regions plus a have the skills to manage complex external vendor/supplier relationships. Stakeholder management will comprise of working with various Global Heads of Functions across CPBB Wealth Management and Affluent, plus colleagues across HR and Talent. The role holder will also be expected to take a leadership role when engaging with the multi-disciplinary teams that will support/deliver the Wealth Academy.
This role is part of the overall reskilling framework for the bank and as such the role holder will also be expected to get involved with other People Capability reskilling initiatives as and when required. This can include supporting the role out of new skills and capabilities related to the future of working in the bank. This part of the role supports the requirement for the role holder to remain at the forefront of the profession, scanning new horizons and aligning with Strategic Workforce Management to ensure the correct strategic priorities are being addressed.
What the role requires
The role requires an individual who can empower and inspire key stakeholders associated with and directly part of the Wealth Academy to continue to develop the design, build strong project management practices and creative capabilities plus experiment with new, innovative and human centred design practices. They will bring energy and drive to motivate and inspire agile teams and provide thought leadership and challenge to the role, colleagues and key stakeholders.
The role holder should additionally:
  • Actively coach and mentor providing hands-on guidance, encouraging higher performance and driving people engagement for colleagues working within the Wealth Academy.
  • Collaborate with the other Hub Leads across People Capability to improve ways of working and realise our collective creative potential.
  • Continually scan the external environment, developing knowledge of the contemporary environment, interesting stories, visual and graphical techniques to bring into creative learning design and delivery.
  • Manage ambiguity with competing local and global work priorities, understanding the inter-connection points between different activities/initiatives, focussing on how the global learning agenda can be maximised and leveraged for local requirements.
What the role does
Learning agendas monitoring and governance
  • Understands the Wealth Academy/CPBB Wealth Management and Affluent unique needs, challenges and ensures that the global agenda delivers on country needs.
  • Provide L&D support to Wealth Academy and ensures expert L&D advisory for Wealth Management and Affluent. This can include advisory on world class learning design, focus on the future of work etc.
  • Be a focal point in building and sustaining People Capability's brand and communications strategy in situ, ensuring that the global agenda, learning standards and curricula are fully utilised and support global initiatives, such as the Global Learning Week.
  • Monitor global programme roll-out, taking a workplace skills transfer perspective to understand the actual business impact of global curricula locally.
  • Provide quality assurance and challenge to requirements for localisation of global initiatives and curricula, ensuring such requests are properly managed to the relevant Learning Councils and Hive Leads.
  • Monitors and shares best practice in managing local regulatory learning audits and compliance reviews within country.
People leadership and talent management
  • Represents a group of People Capability practitioners in talent management practices for the Discipline, including career planning, performance management, coaching and development.
  • Mentors People Capability practitioners across the hub, encouraging them to continuously build mastery of their craftsmanship by identifying and providing growth and learning opportunities.
  • Collects regular feedback from Hive Leads, Squad Leads, Product Owners and other Squad Members to inform their evaluations of the people they are working with and tailoring the coaching to be provided.
  • Encourages People Capability practitioners across the hub to acquire and grow the skills and capabilities needed for efficient and effective adoption of agile principles and practices.
  • Supports the Head of Hive Tomorrow with the identification of People Capability practitioners across the squads, ensuring that both business needs and practitioners' developmental needs are met.
  • Supports workforce and capacity planning and is responsible for the physical and mental wellbeing, absence management, leave approval and other people management practices across the hub.
Thought leadership, innovation and building/ sustaining a community of practitioners
  • Drives advocacy in the community for the People Capability practitioners, building confidence and instilling a sense of pride and purpose in their roles.
  • Leads and facilitates interaction and knowledge sharing processes among Wealth Academy practitioners across different Tribes and Squads.
  • Partners with the Head of Hive Tomorrow to build thought leadership around the Discipline's work standards, processes and practices.
  • Provides active guidance and expertise, supporting the training in common tooling, capabilities and practices for the Wealth Academy.
  • Facilitates knowledge sharing, improving interactions and fostering a positive, inclusive culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging within the Discipline.
  • Participates in solving complex problems that require a relatively higher level of expertise within the Wealth Academy and beyond to the People Capability Management Team
