This is a client facing role, being Newton's Asia-based investment specialist representing the Newton investment platform with the responsibility of growing the book of business in Asia ex-Japan in collaboration with the BNYM IM sales channels in both the intermediary and institutional channels. This role may also involve retention and servicing of existing clients.

Internal facing
  • Be Newton's on the ground investment specialist in Asia ex-Japan.
  • Build strong relationships with Newton investment team members in the UK, US and Asia
  • Build strong relationships with and deliver excellent service to local BNYM IM sales and marketing teams
  • Contribute to forming and executing the business plan for growing Newton's assets in the Asia ex-Japan markets in both intermediary and institutional channels
  • Assess commercial value of business opportunities presented by BNYM IM sales teams and input on fees and prioritisation of new business opportunities
  • Regular reporting to Newton management team regarding regional trends, client activity and prospective areas of growth as well as challenges
  • Provide input into local product development


External facing
  • Build and maintain a thorough and detailed understanding of Newton's investment process and investment strategies and be able to clearly present them to clients / prospects / consultants in both institutional and intermediary channels
  • Cover active and systematic strategies investing in equity, fixed income and multi-asset
  • Regularly travel in the region to present to clients / prospects / consultants in partnership with BNYM to build awareness of our strategies, our brand presence, client relationships and develop commercial opportunities.
  • Speak at and / or attend internal and external seminars and industry events as well as provide comments to journalists
  • Organise, manage and coordinate portfolio manager roadshows in the region while being conscious of cost, time efficiency and quality of meetings.
  • Support local BNY IM teams to ensure strong servicing relationships with Newton clients at a level appropriate to AUM and future potential
  • Interacting with relevant BNYM IM business areas to ensure consistency of message, including input into RFPs and quality control on all communications to consultants
  • Working closely with a broad set of Newton teams and BNYM IM teams; including, but not limited to, CIOs, ITLs, Compliance, Performance and Investment risk

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7-8 years of relevant asset management experience
  • Strong understanding of all public market asset classes and across a range of investment strategies
  • Have the ability to explain and present investment strategies to sophisticated institutional and intermediary clients
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and written and oral communication skills
  • Ideally speak Mandarin and / or Cantonese
  • Possess a good understanding of the commercial dynamics of the intermediary and institutional channels in the Asia ex-Japan region
  • Educated to University level and ideally hold an investment qualification as a minimum
  • Collaborative team player, with the ability to work remotely, be entrepreneurial and be able to use own initiative, and to influence and persuade at a high level both internally and externally
  • Results-focused and have the necessary gravitas for this role, possessing strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Have a service-orientated mind-set with the enthusiasm, drive and ability to develop significant sales across a growing range of products
