Legal Counsel for APAC Global Wealth Management (Digital / Data Lawyer)

As part of the Asia Pacific Legal team, you will provide regional legal support to the Global Wealth businesses of a global bank.

This position will provide ongoing legal advice to the APAC wealth management business generally, but with an emphasis on digital wealth initiatives, platforms and data projects, including those delivered via online and mobile technologies. This role can expect to be engaged on regulatory issues relevant to business practices and new initiatives, existing product programs, new product rollouts, platform enhancements and to support BAU business processes.

Job Scope:

• Legal advisor to APAC's Wealth Business for digital initiatives and data projects in multiple APAC jurisdictions
• Reviewing and assisting with the implementation of new digital initiatives and tools (e.g. software/data processing /storage, client communication tools)
• Drafting/reviewing various contracts used in connection with the business, including customer agreements / disclosures, affiliate service-level agreements and third party vendor contracts
• Providing advice in relation to new data protection legislation / new securities industry rules and regulations / regulatory guidance or industry enforcement trends upon existing products and platforms
• Reviewing all business initiatives involving data including in relation to data analytics and others which involve a change to how data is used or processed
• Participating in adopting/amending policies and procedures and reviewing client-facing materials
• Reviewing and improving internal processes in relation to client data protection rights
• Advising in relation to new business initiatives (prospecting, marketing) which involve use of client data and business digital delivery initiatives including in relation to digital transformation projects, developer portals/open banking/APIs/technology infrastructure.
• Coordinating with other functional support groups, such as Independent Compliance Risk Management (ICRM), Independent Risk, Internal Audit, Tax, and Government Affairs in connection with matters involving the wealth management business
• Working with internal and external legal advisors across the Asia Pacific region and globally on offering Global Wealth product and service suite and implementation of global projects
• As well as primarily advising in relation to digital and data initiatives, this role also has scope to become involved with other varied banking legal team matters

Pre-Requisites:

• 10 years+ of legal work experience with a major law firm or financial institution
• Law degree and admission to the Bar (US, UK, Australia, Hong Kong or Singapore)
• Familiarity with legal and regulatory framework in the Asia Pacific region / Cross Border Banking Environment
• Knowledge of laws and practices in relation to data privacy, data use, and digital offering of financial services solutions
• Practical and solution-oriented
• Strong relationship building skills
• Strong legal analytical skills and judgment
• Written and spoken English. Chinese language preferred.
