The Role Responsibilities
Stress Test Review & Challenge is an independent second line review team sitting within the Treasury CRO function. The team's mandate is to provide assurance to the Treasury CRO, senior management and our Group regulator (Prudential Regulation Authority) of the quality of stress test deliverables. Areas of responsibility encompass all aspects of stress testing including portfolio projections, model risk, management actions, etc. Enterprise stress tests comprise those required by the Group's management and Board to inform Risk Appetite and those required by the PRA, including ICAAP, Bank of England's annual cyclical scenario (ACS) stress test, recovery plan stress test, reverse stress test, and others as required. The team is also responsible for the reviewing other deliverables such as internal management stress tests, climate stress tests, stress testing at material legal entities and resolution planning.
  • Second line review and challenge of stress testing activities including:
    • Group ICAAP stress test and BoE ACS
    • Reverse Stress Test
    • Recovery Plan Stress Test
    • Climate stress tests
    • Internal management stress tests
    • Material legal entity stress tests (i.e. exercises conducted for subsidiaries' regulators)

  • Review end-to-end stress testing processes including methodologies, assumptions, models, judgmental overlays and documentation and form opinions on the intuitiveness of stress testing results.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the stress testing process
  • Keep up to date on regulatory requirements and ensure that regulators' feedback is being addressed.
  • Participate in projects on an ad hoc basis.
  • In addition, the candidate may be tasked with reviewing elements of the Group Resolution Plan.
Strategy
  • Support the Group in pursuit of our strategy by ensuring internal management stress tests properly measure how various downside scenarios could impact the Group's ability to achieve the Corporate Plan.

Governance

  • Ensure first line activities are conducted in accordance with applicable policies and regul atory guidance.
  • Provide feedback to ensure stress testing policy documents remain up to date, reflect any new requirements and incorporate any lessons learnt from prior stress test exercises.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • 5+ years of experience in risk modelling or market/liquidity risk with knowledge of IFRS
  • Prior exposure to stress testing such as ICAAP.
  • Prior exposure to and technical understanding of at least some of the following stress testing components:
    • Scenario design (macro and traded risk shocks)
    • Credit Risk - IFRS9 and/or IRB frameworks
    • Market Risk
    • Operational Risk
    • Business Volumes and Margins (e.g. balance sheet behaviour and pass through rates)
    • Capital (e.g. CET1 ratios, AT1, TLAC)
    • Liquidity
    • Management actions and Recovery Planning
    • Risk Appetite
    • Model Risk
  • Exposure to or interest in climate risk initiatives and stress tests.
  • Programming skills (especially SAS) & handling large datasets.
  • A degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Finance, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Business, Accounting).
  • Good interpersonal & oral communication skills and a team player.
  • An ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Flexibility and openness to new challenges.
