External Managers Department (EMD)
The External Managers Department seeks to identify and develop relationships with the best breed of global investment managers to benefit GIC at large, and at the same time capturing investment opportunities to outperform our benchmarks.

Investment Insights Group (IIG)
The Investment Insights Group (IIG) uses advanced quantitative techniques and cutting-edge technological tools to generate impactful insights that drive superior investment outcomes for GIC. We are a team of high performing Data Scientists, Software Developers, and asset-specific Strats that work closely with each of our investment departments - from Public Markets like Equities and Fixed Income, to Private Markets like Private Equity and Real Estate - to drive high-impact innovations to enhance cross-asset investment capability, business agility and efficiency.

We are looking a Strat to partner the External Managers Department (EMD) team to drive business value and ideation through data-driven insights.

Responsibilities
As part of the team, you will pioneer efforts to produce data-driven insights to augment the fundamental investment process.
• You will work directly with the EMD Strat Lead and Portfolio Managers, who will provide guidance on EMD's investment process
• You will build insights into portfolio drivers and performance, through the application of analytics and data visualization techniques
• You will be involved in producing the insight end-to-end, from idea origination, data or tool evaluation, to data engineering and presenting the insights to the investment professional.
• Depending on the level of expertise, you will work with portfolio managers on bet sizing and portfolio optimization
• This role will require quick and numerous iterations of ideas and engagements with the portfolio managers.
• You will be relied upon, over time, to combine your knowledge of EMD's investment domain with technical skillsets to identify and implement opportunities to further augment EMD's investment process with data and technology, and potentially grow the team in the medium term.

Requirements
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering/Applied Mathematics/Computer Science subjects with exposure to financial markets.
• Relevant experience in portfolio management or portfolio risk and performance analysis - and understand how alpha is generated along the fundamental investment process.
• Proficient with SQL, R and Python programming, as well as data visualization tools e.g. Tableau.
• Proficient in working with a variety of datasets and aggregating/combining them.
• Experience in data retrieval, analytics and visualization for financial data as well as unstructured datasets
• An understanding of optimization routines for portfolio construction would be valuable.
• Strong understanding of a typical investment process - idea generation/screening, portfolio construction, risk management, - encompassing optimization theory, quantitative techniques, and general statistics.
• Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Effective written and verbal communications skills, particularly in explaining technical concepts to a broad audience.
