In Asia Citi Global Wealth, combines the Citi Private Bank and the Consumer Wealth organization, including the International Personal Bank, into a single platform to serve our clients. CGW Asia is a top three wealth manager in the region with over US$300B in clients AUMs and is looking to add in excess of US$150B AUMs by 2025 and further extend our leadership position in Asia.

Job Purpose

Business Strategy and Planning is a key function of the CGW Asia COO Team. Reporting to the Head of Business Strategy and Planning, the Business Strategy and Planning Manager will provide support in driving critical business strategy design, development, planning and post-implementation reviews for CGW Asia, interfacing with many stakeholders in-country, regionally and globally. In addition, the candidate will also collaborate closely with several core function groups including but not limited to Financial Reporting and Management, Business Analytics and Data and Analytics to enable best-in-class management and business analytics reporting process and deliverables.

The Business Strategy and Planning Manager will be expected to support multiple and highly variable deliverables daily, which are critical to facilitate effective business strategy and performance evaluation and timely decision-making. As such, the candidate must establish strong working relationships with internal partners, have a good understanding of the strategic and business dynamics underlying CGW in Asia and support the Business Strategy and Planning team ("the team") in fulfilling its core objectives - to drive all aspects of business strategy and planning, including providing management information and advisory to the CGW Leadership Team.

The successful candidate should possess strategic, business management and analytical skills, be a pragmatic and collaborative team player, and be able to influence change in the organization. The right candidate for the job will support the team in value creation for the firm, improving operating efficiency and helping to identify ways to unlock upside or to stretch limits, driving impact and execution together with the CGW Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

The Business Strategy and Planning Manager will support the team in executing the following responsibilities,

Business Strategy
  • Partner with the CGW Asia Leadership Team, key Business and Function Heads in Asia to shape and support the strategic priorities for CGW Asia, in alignment with CGW global strategy
  • Organize business strategy development activities such as workshops with the CGW Asia Leadership Team, encouraging ideation and challenge for the best outcomes
  • Partner with the CGW Asia Leadership Team to ensure successful formulation and alignment on implementation goals and timelines
  • Set goals for strategic efforts and ensure tracking and measuring are in place for all initiatives, with leading indicators identified and milestones clearly outlined across each effort.
  • Drive and ensure ownership, discipline and smooth execution across key strategic priorities
  • Perform competitive scans and industry research on a periodic basis and help adjust the strategic direction as needed and associate findings with business strategy
  • Engage with external consultants as needed, participate in industry surveys and competitive benchmarking to assess performance against peers.

Business Planning
  • Deliver high quality reporting and management presentations on business and financial metrics in collaboration with Finance to support regular scorecard and business reviews
  • Develop and maintain insightful management dashboards for banker and client analytics, working closely with Global Business Analytics and the Data and Analytics Team in Asia
  • Develop a robust process for expense analysis and management across CGW Asia

Business Reviews and Executive Management Reporting
  • Set the market, strategy and business review cycle and agenda for the CGW Asia Head in Asia
  • Organize meeting and reporting cadence for (1) PB, CG/CPC, Singapore and Hong Kong market reviews (2) business strategy reviews and priorities (3) large scale change management projects including integration and transformation (4) technology and platform development initiatives
  • Develop presentations for CGW Executive Leadership reporting


Knowledge/Experience/Technical skills

  • 10-15 years of direct experience in business strategy, planning and management in banking and financial services
  • Strategic mindset with business management stewardship skills and proven track record of results in both areas
  • Established experience working in business management teams in large, global financial institutions with credible existing or potential senior executive presence
  • Good understanding of banking product, market and operational dynamics
  • Strong project leadership and multi-stakeholder management
  • Pragmatic problem solver, forward thinker with independence of thought. Prepared to challenge status quo
  • Prior consulting, corporate strategy, financial planning & analytics & business development experience valued
