The Intelligence and Operations Specialist utilizes internal processes and external tools to identify risks that may impact Macquarie's personnel and assets. The analyst will be required to accurately synthesize emerging and developing information, communicate actionable intelligence, contribute to travel risk and threat assessment products, as well as intake emergency phone calls and provide support during crisis situations. Strong knowledge of world affairs; OSINT experience necessary. The candidate must be willing to perform shift work as part of a 24/7 Global Security Operations Centre.

Responsibilities
  • Continuously monitor worldwide events in real-time through social media, open-source information, and proprietary services to evaluate and disseminate information on any threats to Macquarie's assets, interests, office locations and business travellers.
  • Will be the main Point-of-Contact in the region for the GSOC team, including Regional Managers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Synthesize data and compose accurate and timely communications, according to established procedures and templates, to notify relevant stakeholders (regional security management, employees, travellers, leadership, etc.).
  • Conduct research and produce cogent analysis for wide-ranging security assessments with a geopolitical scope. Able to deliver these high-quality assessments in both written and verbal form.
  • Analyse daily developments to identify trends and patterns, provide forecasts, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to gain familiarity with a country or issue quickly.
  • Must be comfortable sending out communications via a mass notification system to a large number of staff in the event of a crisis.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the intake and escalation of safety and security incidents as reported by Macquarie personnel. Must have strong crisis management skills to quickly action any calls received on 24/7 hotline.
  • Evaluate and assist staff in obtaining proper permissions, for proposed travel to high-risk locations.
  • Directly support travel security initiatives through employee travel review and preparation of location threat briefs.
  • Provide research and analysis of personal protection situations for designated personnel worldwide.
  • Conduct due diligence investigations on entities and persons as directed.
  • May represent the organization in the preparation, presentation, and defence of positions and recommendations at conferences, business meeting, in working groups and planning sessions.

Minimum Hiring Standards
  • PhD or equivalent (DSc., DPhil, LLD, etc), ideally in International Relations, International Studies, Political Science, or relevant discipline, with a minimum of five to eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Must have a minimum of three years abroad (educational and/or vocational), preferably in SE Asia.
  • Must have a strong command of the English language. Native speaker desired, but not required.
  • Must have an acute knowledge of SE Asia/Asia evidenced by educational training and or work experience.
  • Must be adaptable to a diverse and fast paced environment, especially in times of crisis, should they emerge.
  • Must lead the development of our Singapore based operations and be able to integrate operations and projects with MQ's greater global team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Must be willing to participate in the pre-employment screening process, including drug testing and background investigation.

Competencies (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing)
  • Strong research and analytical skills. Evidenced by publications preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A familiarity of Macquarie's local, regional and global business practices (e.g., a foundational knowledge of risk and security as it pertains international investment bank strategies), as well as possess a strong command of its internal operations.
  • Strong interest in and understanding of geopolitical trends and news, with a specific focus on the Indo-Pacific region.
  • Demonstrated analytical expertise necessary to accurately draw conclusions by synthesizing raw data and information from multiple unrelated sources into a finished comprehensive product.
  • Strong experience with subscription-based assets.
  • Able to present and defend intelligence positions to a variety of audiences including staff, representatives and senior management.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously under varying deadlines and time constraints.
  • Able to maintain composure in dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff, and the public occasionally under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations.
  • Strong client and results orientation.
  • Able to work with little to no supervision.
  • Appropriately handles exposure to sensitive and confidential information.
  • Serve as a positive and effective team member.
  • Computer knowledge; Microsoft Office. Familiarity with industry tools, such as mapping software, desired but not required.
  • A second language is highly desirable, preferably an Asian language but not required.
  • Familiarity with Know Your Customer compliance and Due Diligence procedures and tools. AML certification desired, but not required.

Working Conditions
  • Must be willing and able to do shift work, including overnights and holidays.
  • Regular computer usage.
  • Must be able to see, hear, speak, and write clearly in order to communicate with employees and/or customers.
  • Occasional travel, as required.
