We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Vice President, Risk Manager.

Principal Responsibilities

The purpose of the role of the Distribution Risk Manager ("DRM") is to direct the effective identification, assessment, management, monitoring and mitigation of distribution risk across all distribution channels.

The role is responsible for enabling the business through supporting its ambitious growth aspirations and in the achievement of its strategic goals. The DRM will be responsible for the identification, monitoring and aggregating the overall risk profile and will oversee distribution related risk for the business and provide their recommendations to the CRO.

The role holder will provide SLOD oversight to the FLOD teams across all channels as well as building a culture to support and empower individuals to make decisions in a rapid manner to support business development/growth
  • Partner with the business and risk stewards to provide input into the various distribution-related areas, including recruitment, incentives, end-to-end sales journey, balanced scorecard / sales quality to ensure alignment with HSBC requirements and practices
  • Assess the sales journey design / changes from a risk perspective to ensure controls are acceptable throughout the journey. The business should monitor the controls with risk oversight and partner with risk on any actions needed
  • Ensure a robust SQ / MS framework and assess Conduct MI/ results from a holistic risk perspective - compliance will do this but often just from a pure compliance perspective
  • Scorecards - ensure sufficient metrics are in balanced scorecards and remuneration frameworks are suitable to drive good behaviors
  • Work with the business to continuously improve conduct outcomes by implementing new methodologies
  • Work with the business to develop the right MI for distribution forums and risk appetite monitoring to include training, SQ outcomes, control instances
  • Participate actively in the overall governance related to the agency / FA channel - Distribution Forum, RMM etc.

Qualifications:
  • Typical qualifications would include an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in a risk related discipline
  • Experience:
  • Significant experience in more than one technical risk discipline or distribution related experience
  • Insurance and Wealth Experience are preferential
  • Knowledge of sales related processes and controls are desirable but not essential
  • Experience of managing within a complex matrix environment
  • Experience working across different countries and cultures
  • Experience working in a regulated environment and / or liaising with the regulator
Technical Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of the Group's Risk Governance, Risk Management Framework and Risk Policies
  • Knowledge of the Risk Control Framework, including a broad understanding across the various risk types in HSBC's risk profile defined in the GSM
  • Strong understanding of the external regulatory environment and internal control environment
  • Strong understanding of Non-Financial Risks, Insurance Distribution Risks
