The Role Responsibilities
  • Lead the North Asia Corridors (China, Korea and Japan) and Portfolio business for Global Subsidiaries Singapore.
  • Direct oversight of 9 staff, current year revenue of USD112m, covering a portfolio of ~300 client groups (including portfolio clients).
  • Provide senior support for RM Team Leads and RMs covering New-To-Bank and Existing-To-Bank GS relationships. Define and deliver strategies to achieve GS SG budget and objectives.
  • Maintain strong risk management culture.
Strategy
  • Set and drive strategy for North Asia and Portfolio team. Support GS Singapore, Regional and Global initiatives. Take ownership and/or task team members with ownership of resolution of challenging issues. Ensure mindset across team of "beyond portfolio" - i.e., initiatives and projects which better the entire bank and not just the RM's immediate portfolio.
Business
  • Responsible for Origination and deepening client relationships and driving revenue growth.
  • Awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the Group operates.
  • Ensure strong sales discipline by regularly monitoring and maintaining a healthy pipeline and ensure timely completion of call reports within CRMx/ WorkBench.
  • Ensure quality of the sales pitch and provide support to RMs within team for the delivery of pitches with clients.
  • Coordinate with GAM Team leads in GAM locations for effective client solution delivery.
  • Collaborate with product partners, senior leaders to deliver Effectively use CRM for managing a healthy pipeline and also a record of client calls and discussions.

  • Responsible for supervising client engagements which drive financial performance. Ensure adherence to onboarding process. Given this is a First Line Defence role, ensure self and team take a risk-based approach to management control of business activities.
People & Talent
  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values.
  • Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
  • Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
  • Employ, engage and retain high quality people, with succession planning for critical roles.
  • Responsibility to review team structure/capacity plans.
  • Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.
  • Support team career objectives.
Risk Management
  • Identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks to the team, GS, Group, as well as an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the Group and the role the individual plays in managing them. Ensure deal room deals are managed appropriately. All mandatory trainings completed for self and team within stipulated timeframes. Proactively call out key issues and collaborate with business partners to put in place appropriate controls and measures.
Governance
  • Responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the team's arrangements to deliver effective governance, oversight and controls in the business and, if necessary, oversee changes in these areas; Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the GS operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Lead the Head of North Asia Corridor and Portfolio to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank's Conduct Principles. Fair Outcomes for Clients, Effective Financial Markets, Financial Crime Compliance, The Right Environment.
  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • 12+ years of relevant relationship management experience covering North Asia-based clients (predominantly Chinese corporates).
  • Strong knowledge of legal, economic, and regulatory environment in China and Singapore as well as other key trading corridors.
  • Credit trained.
  • Proposal management and delivery skills and a good question-asker.
  • Multi-cultural awareness and sensitivity with an understanding of cultural, ethnic, and religious market conditions to translate strategy into effective local operations.
  • Risk management experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills .
  • Mandarin language would be advantageous as the scope of the role will be to work on clients from predominantly in the North Asia-based market (predominantly Chinese corporates).
