About this role

Team Overview:
The BlackRock Investment Institute (BII) is a global team which uses the firm's expertise and generates proprietary research to provide insights on long-term asset allocation, the global economy, markets and geopolitics - all to help our clients and portfolio managers navigate financial markets. As a unique center of excellence, BII offers strategic and tactical market views, publications and digital tools that are underpinned by proprietary research. Our aim is to secure a better financial future for our clients by helping them understand what is in their portfolio and determine the mix of asset classes that fit their risk and return needs.

The Portfolio Research Group in BII strives to be viewed as credible and objective by both clients and academia, building o state-of-the-art academic research and using the expertise of BlackRock's investment teams to deliver complex analytics, practical and actionable content to the rest of the firm.

This specific role will be situated in APAC, an area of strategic growth for BlackRock. The role will include working closely with the BII Chief Asia Strategist in both creating thought leading content and disseminating those insights both to colleagues and externally.
Key Responsibilities:

Located in Singapore, the primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Generating BlackRock's Capital Market Assumptions. You will help us build new innovative quantitative models to project the returns of assets through time, as well as play a key role in developing and automating forecasting models.
  • Developing new investment frameworks. You will come up with new analytical methodologies to improve the construction of portfolios and help clients meet their long-term investment objectives.
  • Prototyping new optimization and other asset allocation models. Work with advanced optimization algorithms to develop BlackRock's approach to portfolio construction.
  • Delivering content to build our brand: You will help us to communicate our research via internal and external publications, partnership with BlackRock's investment teams and participation in conferences, client meetings and media appearances.
  • Driving internal adoption: You will work with team members to disseminate the group's research with internal stakeholders and work with them to facilitate its use and adoption
Knowledge / Experience:
  • A demonstrably quantitative and creative mind, with a degree in a quantitative field (e.g. economics, finance, engineering, physics, and math)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to distil research for broad consumption
  • Strong statistical modelling and data analysis skills
  • Open-minded thought process and intellectual curiosity
  • Motivated teammate, flexible in approach and ability to work independently
  • Responsive with keen attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of the use of computer technology in financial and economic research, with strong statistical package programming skills (e.g., Matlab, R, Python) Intuition for and a passion in financial markets and with experience in the finance sector

Our hybrid work model
