The Relative Value Team within Sterling Capital Management seeks an Equity Analyst to be based with the team in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. The Analyst’s primary responsibilities will be in support of the team’s Small Cap Value product, with additional work on the Mid Cap Relative Value and Real Estate products. A successful candidate would face a broad array of duties and assignments including, but not limited to: universe screening, analyzing company fundamentals on new investment ideas and current holdings, proposing new investment ideas, spreadsheet and database management, authoring commentaries for client communications, supporting product specialist teams and fulfilling other value-added administrative tasks.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and run the team’s quantitative investment screen
  • Prepare fundamental, bottom-up analysis on subject companies utilizing various information and data resources
  • Interview company management and industry contacts via virtual and in-person meetings
  • Recommend securities to be included in Relative Value portfolios
  • Effectively communicate with clients, consultants, and prospects regarding Sterling’s investment management process

Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • Background with fundamental bottom-up research and analysis experience preferred
  • Ability to deliver recommendations (orally and in writing) in an organized, concise, and impactful manner
  • Comfortable exchanging ideas in a team setting while defending the investment merits of recommended ideas
  • Conduct research with an emphasis on independent thinking and fact-based analysis
  • Strong writing experience used to assist team with periodic commentaries and client communications
  • Ability to travel as needed (research conferences, client meetings, etc.)
  • A desire for a long-term career as a buy-side analyst
  • Ability to work in the office 2-4 days/week
  • Experience with FactSet software a plus

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ years of professional experience in the investment industry
  • CFA designation or progress toward CFA designation
  • Thorough interest in equity investing, generalist or industry-specific
  • High level of technological competence
  • Strong communications skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications
