The role

The Sustainability & Climate Change Strategy team within the Sustainability Group focuses on understanding the broader sustainability policy context, evolving regulatory and market expectations as well resulting implications for investing.

To further our understanding but also to position Temasek as an investor at the forefront of integrating sustainability at the core of its business and operations, the team engages on global initiatives at the intersection of sustainability and finance / investing domestically and internationally.

The team works to align Temasek's ways of working with international best practices, including in the area of disclosures and to continuously progress our ambition to understand the total impact of our investments.

Acting as a catalyst for change, the team drives internal and external engagement platforms to advance learning and collaboration among senior executives, staff and portfolio companies.

In support of the above areas, the prospective candidate will provide research, project and presentation support to the team, particularly in the areas of responsibility as outlined below.

The Sustainability & Climate Change Strategy team is a young and dynamic team with growing and evolving areas of focus. The role will require flexibility and adaptability to the different needs of the team.

In order to effectively carry out its work, the candidate will also need to build relevant linkages to colleagues in other departments and be comfortable with working in a fast-paced and highly matrixed work environment.

Providing effective and timely support to certain projects may occasionally require support beyond the normal office hours.

Role and Responsibilities
  1. Sustainability Trends, Policy and Strategy Development
  • Track relevant international policy developments at the intersection of sustainability and finance / investment and provide timely updates and summaries on key developments
  • Provide in-depth research on upcoming topics, such as biodiversity/nature and various social topics (e.g. ethics of AI; fair wages etc.)
  • Support the preparation of conference participation, study trips and other external engagements by arranging logistics, meetings, briefings and serving as a notes taker
  • Support regular internal updates to leadership / senior management
  1. Sustainability Reporting and Impact Measurement
  • Support various projects relating to sustainability reporting (PRI, Temasek Review, Corporate Website) and help anchor related data collection activities
  • Support the establishment, maintenance, and stewardship of relevant data sets and help continuously evolve the database with the relevant metrics and KPIs (e.g. carbon emissions)
  1. Global Investor Alliances and Expert Networks
  • Support the continuous review and implementation of Temasek's sustainability-focused stakeholder engagement strategy
  • Provide research and content support for Temasek's participation in key alliances, including e.g. FCLT, GFANZ, NZ-AoA etc.
  • Support the build-out and engagement of Temasek's sustainability networks (e.g. Ecosperity Advisory Group, TPC Sustainability Council, TPC sustainability leaders network.
Requirements / Key Attributes
  • Degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Marketing or related field
  • Relevant working experience in a similar role for an organization (preferably financial industry) with international exposure preferred
  • Basic understanding of the investment industry and a passion for sustainability-related matters, both across the environmental and social dimensions of sustainability
  • Prior experience in the area of sustainability management and/or reporting preferred
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in English (speaking and writing)
  • Excellent command of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) as well as general ability to work with online research tools and systems
  • Exemplary organisational skills and self-motivation to continuously seek to improve established processes
  • Strong commitment to quality, timelines and integrity
  • Strong self-management and ability to multi-task and to prioritize work effectively
  • Good team-player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn and thrive in a fast-paced evolving and dynamic environment.
