About the Team
  • The Treasury Capital team is responsible for managing regulatory capital for the Group. This includes forecasting the Group's capital ratios and quantifying associated risks and opportunities, managing external issuance for the Group, and delivering the ICAAP. The team also provides expertise into several areas including capital stress testing and modelling, the regulatory capital agenda as well as capital flows and utilization across the Group. Importantly, the team is also responsible for proposing capital risk appetite. Overall, the team supports the capital ambitions of the Group whilst ensuring adherence to various legal, regulatory-related requirements and risk appetite. We are informed by an understanding of the broader environment, including market expectations, credit rating agency considerations and peer comparisons
The Role Responsibilities
  • There are several interesting aspects of this role: Firstly, the role holder will provide capital expertise and recommendations into key projects such as mergers and acquisitions, divestments, IPOs, and equity raising as well as other transactions and initiatives.
  • The role holder will also partner with countries and businesses in identifying and executing on capital utilization and optimization activities with the objective of managing Sum of the Parts (SoTP) and double leverage, and more broadly in supporting the Group's capital guidance with respect to Return on Tangible Equity (ROTE) and shareholder distributions. Maintaining compliance with legal/regulatory requirements, risk appetite and standards will also be key
  • The role holder will also engage in broader capital deliverables, particularly with respect to capital forecasting where we are seeking to improve our forecasting through improved capabilities across tooling, data, and processes
Strategy
  • Provide capital expertise into key projects, transactions, and initiatives
  • Contribute to capital utilization and optimization activities to support Return on Tangible Equity (ROTE) uplift and shareholder distributions
  • Work with colleagues across the Group to implement and enhance the capital forecasting process
Business
  • The role holder's primary stakeholders will be

  • Capital utilization and optimization: Regional Treasury, Financial Planning and Analytics (FP&A), Country Finance, CPM and other business colleagues, Risk
  • Capital forecasting and management: Treasury, FP&A, CPM, Risk
Processes
  • Prepare the capital impact assessment of Group-led strategic projects, transactions, and initiatives. This includes modelling and calculating the day one capital impact; confirming the funding provider, recommending an optimal funding structure, and ensuring the funding request is within both plan and relevant risk appetite, identifying and highlighting any dependencies to ensure ongoing sustainability post-transaction. The role holder will also be responsible for briefing Treasury Management to facilitate approvals
  • Prepare high quality MI to communicate analysis and impact of strategic projects and initiatives and help to instil a high standard for communications across the Treasury Capital team
  • Develop a pipeline of capital optimization opportunities and collaborate with Business and Country teams to deliver on these efficiencies with the overall objective of managing Sum of the Parts (SoTP) and Double Leverage (DL) and supporting delivery of the Group's capital guidance
  • Assist team members in the capital forecasting process, stepping in as required to prepare the Group and Solo capital forecasts and to provide updates to key stakeholders. Support the objective of improving forecasting over time
  • Contribute to deliverables for the wider Treasury Capital team including preparation of committee materials and governance activities
Risk Management
  • Manage execution of projects, transactions, and initiatives in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as the Treasury Risk Management Framework, Policies and Standards. This involves collaborating with/and ensuring appropriate stakeholder representation on projects and initiatives and working across all three lines of defence
Governance
  • Partner with Group Corporate Secretariat to ensure governance and accountability for capital deployment within the parameters of the Group Delegated Authorities Manual (GDAM)
  • Ensure all capital and strategic projects are subjected to the necessary governance processes as appropriate
  • Support Treasury Capital team in the delivery of broader governance activities to ensure a robust control environment

Our Ideal Candidate
  • 8+ years' experience with a broad understanding of all banking businesses
  • Experience in Capital management and Treasury Assessment is preferable
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to network and influence decisions within the business and functional teams and solve problems collaboratively in a multifunctional and multicultural team environment
  • Ability to deliver timely and clear messaging that is understood by our stakeholders and addresses the "so what" rather than just presenting information
  • Strong financial modelling and analytical skills and ability to prioritize, whilst working to tight timeframes. Strategic mindset with strong problem solving and good common sense/ logical thinking skills. An inquisitive "challenge the status quo" approach to existing practices and procedures
  • Resilient and open minded. Flexible and responsive nature to handle changing priorities and recover from setbacks
  • Accountable and takes ownership of issues and outcomes. Puts their hands up when no-one else does and really cares about the quality of their work
  • Able to multitask and work independently with minimal direction and take the initiative to execute and get stuff done
  • Good business judgment with experience in process improvement and operational control and risk assessment
  • Knowledge of UK CRR and PRA capital regulations is preferred
  • CFA and/or MBA is a plus
